• TARGET AUDIENCE
  This activity is intended for medical oncologists, breast surgeons, hematologists, hematology-oncology fellows, radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of breast cancer.
  
  PURPOSE STATEMENT
  By providing information on the latest research developments in the context of expert perspectives, this NCPD activity will assist oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists with the formulation of state-of-the-art clinical management strategies to facilitate optimal care of patients with breast cancer.
  
  LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  

  • Appreciate the importance of shared decision-making, and employ novel approaches and resources to improve counseling and treatment discussions regarding metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (mTNBC).
  • Reflect on the viewpoints of disease-specific clinical investigators regarding best-practice management approaches for mTNBC, and use this information to discuss appropriate therapeutic recommendations.
  • Evaluate published research findings, patient preferences and clinical factors such as age, performance status, prior therapeutic exposure and PD-L1/BRCA/HER2-low status in the selection and sequencing of therapy for mTNBC.
  • Appreciate available clinical trial data with approved antibody-drug conjugates for mTNBC in order to optimally incorporate these agents into treatment algorithms.
  • Recognize the spectrum, frequency and severity of treatment-emergent adverse events associated with agents commonly used in the management of mTNBC, and develop strategies to monitor for, prevent and manage these complications.
  • Describe the challenges encountered by patients with mTNBC, and enact efforts within current practice to overcome these barriers.
