    This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Comprehend how DNA damage repair pathway abnormalities can be exploited via PARP inhibition to elicit therapeutic benefit for patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
    • Describe the rationale for testing patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer for mutations in homology-directed DNA repair predisposition genes (eg, BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2), and advise individuals found to harbor these genetic abnormalities about the potential role of PARP inhibition.
    • Appraise available Phase III data supporting the use of PARP inhibitor maintenance therapy for patients with BRCA-mutated metastatic pancreatic cancer whose disease has not progressed on first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, and optimally incorporate this treatment strategy into current management algorithms.
    • Recognize the side effects and toxicities commonly associated with the use of PARP inhibitors for patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer, and identify strategies to manage or mitigate them.
    • Recall ongoing research studies evaluating novel applications of PARP inhibitors for pancreatic cancer, and counsel appropriate individuals regarding potential clinical trial participation.
