CE Information and Faculty Disclosures

  • TARGET AUDIENCE
This program is intended for medical oncologists, hematologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other allied healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of breast cancer.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Appreciate the scientific rationale for ovarian function suppression/ablation as a therapeutic strategy for premenopausal patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast cancer, and appraise the risks and potential benefits of surgical and pharmacologic interventions.
    • Appraise clinical research findings documenting the efficacy of adding gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa’s) to standard adjuvant endocrine therapy for localized HR-positive premenopausal breast cancer, and identify patients appropriate for this strategy.
    • Optimize the use of GnRHa therapy in the care of premenopausal women with HR-positive breast cancer, applying clinical research when determining the timing of initiation and duration of treatment.
    • Recognize the potential for chemotherapy-induced premature ovarian insufficiency with various cytotoxic agents used in breast cancer therapy, and assess the effectiveness and potential role of various interventions in preserving ovarian hormone production and facilitating successful childbirth.
    • Evaluate the side effects associated with GnRHa therapy for breast cancer, and formulate supportive care strategies to minimize and manage these toxicities.
