• TARGET AUDIENCE
  This activity is intended for hematologists, medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
  
  LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Consider the clinical and prognostic significance of specific cytogenetic and molecular alterations, and use this information to develop or refine current diagnostic testing algorithms and treatment strategies for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
  • Determine how age, performance status and other biologic and disease-related factors affect the selection and sequencing of therapy for patients with various presentations of AML.
  • Appreciate the FDA approval of venetoclax for patients with newly diagnosed AML not eligible for intensive therapy, and discern how this agent can be optimally integrated into clinical management.
  • Assess published research data and investigator perspectives regarding the management of AML with an actionable genomic alteration (eg, FLT3, IDH1/2), and use this information to develop optimal treatment plans for patients.
  • Design a plan of care to recognize and manage side effects and toxicities associated with existing and recently approved systemic therapies used in the management of AML in patients not eligible for induction therapy, to support quality of life and continuation of treatment.
