    This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical and radiation oncologists, urologists and other allied healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of prostate cancer.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Recognize the potential for cardiovascular adverse events with various hormonal therapies in patients with prostate cancer, and develop effective strategies to monitor for, prevent and manage these toxicities.
    • Appreciate the effects of metabolic syndrome on outcomes for patients with prostate cancer, and adopt appropriate protocols to assess and manage this condition.
    • Review the structural and pharmacologic differences among the various androgen receptor-targeted agents, and understand the relative incidence of seizures and other CNS-related events noted with different therapies in this class.
    • Appraise the effect of hormonal therapies on bone health and the occurrence of skeletal-related events, including fractures, in patients with prostate cancer in order to optimize the use of monitoring strategies and bone-protective agents.
    • Assess the relative incidence of falls, hypothyroidism and fatigue with the different second-generation antiandrogen therapies to individualize therapy for patients with prostate cancer.
