    This activity is intended for medical oncologists, breast surgeons, radiation oncologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer (BC).

    OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITY
    Several relevant clinical and regulatory developments coupled with many lingering practical management concerns and the activation of a multitude of clinical trials evaluating novel agents have challenged physicians and their support staffs as they attempt to deliver state-of-the-art care for patients with triple-negative BC.

    These video proceedings from a CME symposium during the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium feature discussions with leading researchers with an expertise in BC regarding actual cases from their practices and the published data that drive clinical decision-making for patients in those and diverse other situations. By providing information on the latest research developments and their potential application to routine practice, this activity is designed to assist medical oncologists and other healthcare professionals with the formulation of up-to-date clinical management strategies.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Evaluate published research findings, relevant clinical factors (eg, age, performance status, prior therapeutic exposure) and patient preferences in the selection and sequencing of available therapeutic agents for metastatic ER/PR-negative, HER2-negative BC.
    • Appreciate the biologic rationale for, available data with and potential long-term benefits of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibody therapy for patients with metastatic triple-negative BC (mTNBC).
    • Consider data supporting the FDA approval of anti-PD-L1 antibody therapy combined with chemotherapy for newly diagnosed PD-L1-positive mTNBC, and use this information to identify patients who may be appropriate for this approach in clinical practice.
    • Assess the biologic rationale for ongoing clinical trials evaluating anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies alone or in combination with other systemic therapies for TNBC in order to effectively communicate to patients the potential benefits of trial participation.
    • Appraise published efficacy and safety data with the use of PARP inhibitors for mTNBC harboring a BRCA1/2 mutation, and consider the diagnostic and therapeutic implications of these findings for nonresearch clinical care.
    • Appreciate the mechanisms of action of, early data with and ongoing research efforts evaluating other novel agents and treatment strategies under development for patients with TNBC.
