  This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of thyroid cancer.
  
  LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Review the role of aberrant vascular endothelial growth factor receptor signaling in the pathogenesis of advanced thyroid cancer and the rationale for the use of multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in this disease setting.
  • Evaluate the efficacy and safety of multitargeted TKIs in advanced thyroid cancer, and discern how these agents can be optimally employed in first- and later-line patient care.
  • Recognize the spectrum and prevalence of potentially targetable genomic alterations in patients with thyroid cancer, and discuss the means by which these alterations contribute to tumor growth and proliferation.
  • Analyze available safety and efficacy results with novel RET inhibitors for RET-driven thyroid cancer, and appropriately integrate these agents into current treatment algorithms.
  • Consider the clinical relevance of NTRK gene fusions in thyroid cancer, and appreciate available clinical research evidence with and FDA endorsements for TRK inhibitors for the subgroup of patients with these fusions.
  • Recall the design of ongoing clinical trials evaluating novel agents and strategies for thyroid cancer, and counsel appropriate patients about availability and participation.
