    This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of breast cancer.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Evaluate emerging Phase III data documenting the benefit of abemaciclib in combination with standard hormonal therapy for patients with ER-positive, HER2-negative early breast cancer at high risk for recurrence, and consider the implications of these findings for clinical care.
    • Recall the design and eligibility criteria of ongoing clinical trials evaluating the role of adjuvant CDK4/6 inhibitors for localized ER-positive breast cancer, and enroll or refer appropriate patients for participation.
    • Appreciate the unique side effects associated with CDK4/6 inhibitors, and develop preventive and emergent strategies to reduce or ameliorate these toxicities.
    • Individualize the selection and duration of adjuvant systemic therapy for newly diagnosed ER-positive breast cancer, considering the patient’s clinical presentation (eg, age, stage, tumor size, nodal involvement, menopausal status, comorbidities) and disease- and treatment-related factors.
