CE Information and Faculty Disclosures

  • TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for hematologists, medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of lung cancer.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Discern the overall incidence of central nervous system (CNS) involvement among patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and discuss how the presence of brain metastases effects prognosis.
    • Review published research data documenting the efficacy of the third-generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib in the treatment of brain metastases, and discern how this information should be applied to patient care.
    • Evaluate the activity of FDA-endorsed ALK inhibitors in patients with NSCLC with ALK rearrangements and CNS metastases to optimize the selection and sequencing of targeted treatments.
    • Appraise available data with various targeted therapies for patients harboring distinct genetic abnormalities (eg, RET or NTRK fusions) to personalize treatment recommendations.
    • Appreciate available clinical trial data and recall the rationale for ongoing research with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies for patients with NSCLC with brain metastases in order to offer appropriate counseling about protocol and nonresearch treatment options.
