• TARGET AUDIENCE
  This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of multiple myeloma.
  
  LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the scientific rationale for and mechanism of action of BCMA-directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for patients with multiple myeloma (MM), and appreciate the similarities and differences among currently available agents in this class.
  • Understand the clinical research database with BCMA-directed CAR T-cell therapy for the management of relapsed/refractory MM to optimally integrate this novel therapeutic strategy into treatment sequencing algorithms.
  • Understand the pathophysiology of cytokine release syndrome and neurologic toxicities associated with CAR T-cell therapy for MM, and develop strategies to optimally identify and manage these side effects.
  • Recognize the spectrum, frequency and severity of other adverse events (eg, secondary hematologic malignancies, infections, cytopenias) associated with CAR T-cell therapy for patients with MM, and consider recommended approaches to prevent, ameliorate and manage these toxicities.
  • Review the logistical and practical requirements associated with CAR T-cell therapy for MM in order to appropriately educate eligible patients.
