CE Information and Faculty Disclosures

  • TARGET AUDIENCE
These activities have been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists involved in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

    PURPOSE STATEMENT
By providing information on the latest research developments in the context of expert perspectives, this NCPD activity will assist oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists with the formulation of state-of-the-art clinical management strategies to facilitate optimal care of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Apply available clinical information and research data to the therapeutic and supportive care of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
    • Appreciate the importance of clinical presentation, biomarker profile, coexisting medical conditions and psychosocial status in the selection of systemic therapy for patients with newly diagnosed CLL.
    • Discuss the efficacy and safety of Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibition with acalabrutinib or ibrutinib for patients with CLL, and discern how this strategy can be optimally integrated into nonresearch treatment.
    • Assess the activity of venetoclax in combination with obinutuzumab as front-line therapy for CLL, and determine how this regimen can be appropriately integrated into treatment decision-making.
    • Implement a plan of care to recognize and manage side effects and toxicities associated with systemic therapies commonly used in the management of CLL, in order to support quality of life and continuation of therapy.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance the collaborative role of oncology nurses in the comprehensive biopsychosocial care of patients with CLL to optimize clinical and quality-of-life outcomes.
