• TARGET AUDIENCE
  This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists involved in the treatment of urothelial bladder cancer.
  
  PURPOSE STATEMENT
  By providing information on the latest research developments in the context of expert perspectives, this NCPD activity will assist oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists with the formulation of state-of-the-art clinical management strategies to facilitate optimal care of patients with urothelial bladder cancer.
  
  LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Consider available data supporting the use of anti-PD-1 antibody therapy for high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) that is unresponsive to BCG, and determine for whom this strategy should be integrated into current care.
  • Develop an understanding of the biologic rationale for and available research findings with promising investigational agents and strategies for NMIBC.
  • Evaluate the recent FDA approval of adjuvant anti-PD-1 antibody therapy for patients with high-risk muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), and understand the current role of this treatment strategy.
  • Counsel patients about the biological and patient-specific factors that affect the selection and sequencing of treatment for metastatic urothelial bladder cancer (UBC).
  • Review available clinical trial evidence with immune checkpoint inhibitors in the treatment of newly diagnosed metastatic UBC, and recognize the current utility of these agents in clinical practice.
  • Assess the current and potential role in patient care of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies in combination with other systemic agents that have established efficacy in UBC.
  • Implement a plan of care to recognize and manage side effects and toxicities associated with recently approved therapies for advanced or metastatic UBC.
